The Fantasy continues...

If you are thinking about purchasing The Quest for the Trilogy, I would strongly suggest reading the three previous books in this series (if you have not already - The Rover, The Destruction of the Books and Lord of the Libraries.

With this series, Mel Odom has created a world and a world history that is reminiscent of Tolkien and yet stands strongly apart as its own story. Odom creates for us a rich set of characters and then sets them into a story line that is bound to drag you in and keep you turning the pages.

This book - a novel of three adventures, as it is described - actually fills in some of the gaps in world and character history from the prior books, but it does so in the setting of a story that is moving forward. The result is that although much of the book relates prior history - you do not feel like we are rehashing old ground. And it gives hope that the story line will continue into future novels.

As an avid reader, what I found unique in this whole series is that books are what drives the whole story. The value of books and of the ability to read is such a strong theme throughout, and often the solutions to the problems faced (and overcome) lies in the books read and the knowledge gained from them. What a great message to be sending to people who may be really into fantasy but not yet committed readers! What a great opportunity for a middle or high school teacher to expose his/her students to something exciting and fun (a little violence, no sex) but that reinforces the message that reading is good and good for you!

EXCELLENT backing tracks!

I have about 40 of these play along books, and most all of them are superb. My playing has improved TREMENDUSLY since begininning using them. What I do mostly that works for me, and is most fun for me, is to learn the intro and a few key verses of a song, and then simply improvise the rest, which helps me practice my pentatonic scales and such. So I rarely ever learn an entire song note for note, but to jam along to a familar song and put my own spin on it is really rewarding. This book has many of AC/DC's well known songs, and the backing tracks are AWESOME! I learned "Dirty Deeds" and it's fairly 'easy' to learn the hook, then jam out the rest. The tone I can match perfectly with my Mustang III amplifier. Anyway, these guitar play along books are a lot of fun, and really help you become better.

Not bad.

Maunder's text may not be the "best" book on algebraic topology, but I still recommend this one to those who find other more advanced texts like Spanier rather inaccessible. Warning: the chapter on cohomology and duality is not very well-organaized (compared to other chapters), so you may want to consult Bredon's book instead.

Shouldn't be your first text in algebraic topology.

It is a decent book in algebraic topology, as a reference. At first, I found this textbook rather hard to read. Too many lemmas, theorems, etceteras. Three suggestions:
1. Needs more pictures, especially for the simplicial homology Chapter.
2. CW complexes should be covered before duality and not after.
3. Needs more examples and exercises.
Overall, the book is very good, if you have already some experience in Algebraic Topology. I found that the Croom's book "Basic concepts of Algebraic Topology" is an excellent first textbook. Too bad it is out of print, since it is very popular, every time I get it from the library, someone else recalls it. This is a great book to prepare you for a Java technical interview.

This is a very well written book that not only addresses topics that are covered during a Java technical interview but it also has a range of interview questions for each topic.

It captures concepts on a wide range of topics: covering fundamentals, OOPs, generics, collections, threading, memory management, various design and Java language concepts, in a very precise manner. Each chapter contains a series of questions for your practice. This book is really very comprehensive. It also contains lots of code snippets and figures to explain the concept. Overall a great book to prepare you for technical interviews. Happy to make this investment.

Wow, is this guide book ever comprehensive about Java as it relates to the technical interview round! Honestly, if you want to make sure that you are mentally prepared to answer any and all questions in a thoughtful, intelligent manner that is sure to impress, then you need to peruse this book. You might not need all the information presented, as it is pretty darned extensive. However, if you go over the sections you are not sure about, you can go into your technical interview feeling confident. Actually, this is also a good refresher on Java if you only need that as well.
